Quail Members and Pro lead NDCL in State Golf Tournament

Quail Hollow would like to congratulate a few of our younger members who helped lead the NDCL girls golf team to a third place place finish in the OHSAA Division II State Golf Tournament this past Friday-Saturday, October 10-11.  The team finished with a two day total of 688 on the Gray Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club.

The team was led by Quail Hollow member and NDCL senior Olivia Jereb, who fired 73-76 for a two day total of 149 which was good enough for fifth place in the tournament individually.  She will move on to play for Ashland University next year, joining her sister Emily.  Also helping the NDCL ladies were members Kelsey Walton and Nora Nelson, who will both rejoin the team again next year.

We would also like to congratulate our own Toni DeSanto, who coached NDCL freshman Charlie Toman to an individual state title in the boys Division II State Golf Tournament.  In his very first year, Charlie shot rounds of 74-79 on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State and took Medalist honors in the tournament.  What a talent to have for the next three years!

Quail Hollow is proud to have so many juniors come up through our junior programs and go on to enjoy and have success in the game of golf.  Congratulations ladies, Charlie, and Toni! We look forward to many more congratulatory posts like this in the future!

2014 Silver Quail Cup Matches

The annual Silver Quail Cup Matches were held this past weekend.  On Saturday, October 11, twelve members and two professionals from both Quail Hollow and Silver Lake Country Clubs teed it up at Silver Lake for the day one matches consisting of a front nine two-person Best Ball match, and back nine two-person Scramble match, with each nine hole and overall 18 hole match worth 1 point.  After some well fought matches on a chilly morning, The Quail team trailed Silver Lake by four points 12.5 - 8.5 after day one.

The Quail Team then took home course advantage on Sunday, October 12th, needing to mount a comeback.  The format for day two again consisted of two-person teams playing a Shamble on the front nine, and a Chapman (Pinehurst) format on the back nine, with points given for each format and the total match. The first team of Aquila/Trent brought home 1 out of 3 points, but were followed by the team of Manno/Dryer who took home all three points.  Springer/Lesigonich followed them to the clubhouse right after with another three points, giving Quail their first lead in the event.  Team Foley/Gisondo followed that with 2 out of three points, and the men's side of the event was anchored by the team of Zappitello/Dunlap who halved their match at 1 1/2 points a piece thanks to a big 15 foot putt on the 18th green holed by Mike Zappitello after a very "confident" stroke.

With the men in a good position to cover the four point deficit, the winner of the cup would come down to the two ladies matches. The team of Felice/Brick had a tougher day two after team Felice/Angelo took home all three points on day one, which meant the day two team of Ritchie/Gorka had to take home all three points for a Quail victory. After a tough fought match, the ladies walked in from the 18th green and announced the good news.  All three points were won, and the Quail team snuck out a victory 22-20! This marked the second win for the Quail Team since the inaugural matches in 2002!

Congratulations to the victorious 2014 Quail Hollow team, and thank you to the Silver Lake team for their hospitality and camaraderie.
